World championship day 2 - Recap

November 21st, 2022

Summary

After the group stage of the World Championship, the teams met again today. It was time to play the runners-up of the group and of course the final bracket to award the title of the official Farming Simulator League World Champion again. The atmosphere was visibly more tense than the previous day. The known pairings promised some first-class matches. However, at the end of the day, Trelleborg was again the winning team and defended the title successfully against the team of New Holland.

Games of the lower bracket

Group A

mYinsanity vs. Bednar

REMATCH! You could already see this pairing on the first day of the World Championship matches. Here Bednar could win after two rounds and the better use of the multiplier. Also in this match, the Czech players should prevail. The Swiss repeatedly adjusted their tactics, so this time three rounds were played, with points moderately close. The teams met on equal terms, but for mYinsanity it was not enough to win this time. Bednar advanced to the semifinals, where New Holland, the group winner of B, had long been waiting.

Group B

Valtra vs. Lindner

The last match of group B was played by Valtra against Lindner. As mentioned a few times before, the teams improved once again compared to the previous season. Especially the Finnish team surprised the Austrians and made them sweat. After two rounds, Valtra overwhelmed Team Lindner. For them, it was now on to the semi-finals.

Semifinals

Trelleborg vs. Valtra

The semifinals opened with the Northern European teams Trelleborg and Valtra. The Finns fought to make it as difficult as possible for the Swedish team and to take the next step towards the title. The first round went clearly to Trelleborg, but in the second Valtra prevailed. As you know from "the Borg", the team plays all the stronger if they have lost before. Accordingly, both teams fought a real bale battle in the third round, which Trelleborg ultimately took with this weekend's bale record of 41. Trelleborg was thus determined as the first finalist.

New Holland vs. Bednar

Next up, newcomers New Holland wrestled with FSL veterans Bednar for a spot in the final. For New Holland, their fourth season so far has gone very well: they started as a new team (Fermiers Flamboyants) and found a sponsor a few weeks before the finals. Whether they win the title or not, we will most likely see the team in the next season as well. As for the course of the match, it became incredibly exciting. Although this match consisted of only two rounds, they were packed with excitement and thrills. Here and there, as in every match, there were a few minor mistakes, but in the end it was Team New Holland's playful skill that led them to the next round. Bednar thus slipped into the match for third place against Team Valtra.

Valtra vs. Bednar

This started the penultimate match of the day, for third place. Among other encounters, this one is one not seen so far in Season 4, which automatically made the clash all the more exciting. If you go by the standings, the sixth, and seventh place teams played each other that far through the bracket and were now battling for third in the championship!

Both teams chose a strategy of producing and passing a lot of bales. After the past tournament hours, Valtra showed fewer mistakes overall and better gameplay. After two rounds and similar scores in both rounds, the Finns took third place.

Trelleborg vs. New Holland

No matter the outcome of this match, these two teams have come so far and have shown their gameplay skills over and over again. The crowd was torn as well, unable to agree on which team would win the title. Either way, the final is the only match that was played in best of 5. So the challenge for both teams was raised to another level.

Was it due to excitement? A lack of coordination? In the first round, Team Trelleborg won by over 200 points, which made for a rather unfamiliar picture. In the second round, both teams scored unusually low, with New Holland securing the win this time. This left the score tied and one of the teams still needed to win at least twice to take the title.

After this defeat, the team from the Swedish tire manufacturer was fired up again and paid even closer attention to their gameplay. The next two rounds they raised the level considerably, hardly allowing any mistakes and putting further pressure on their opponents. New Holland did well and held up decently against the pressure, but it wasn't enough to win either match. In the end, after four rounds played, Team Trelleborg can call themselves the old and new World Champions. New Holland took the second place and is therefore vice world champion.

Conclusion

During this tournament weekend, the teams showed us perfected strategies of the current season, fantastic games and thus gave us some thrills. Not only you as spectators, but also the players on site in the studio in Erlangen had an incomparable time. Every team that made it to today's tournament day can be very proud of themselves. The two season favorites Trelleborg and New Holland, whose pairing we have seen a few times during the past tournaments, prevailed. The old and new world champion Trelleborg has prevailed - congratulations!
